I hope you had a lovely Easter!

It was wonderful to welcome the children back and hear all about their Easter holidays. This week we finished our unit based on the book ‘Hello Mr Postmouse.’ The children planned and wrote a letter to a character in the book.

In Maths the children began their new topic based on length and height. During the week they compared lengths and heights, measured objects using cubes and then measured the length of objects in Centimetres.

In PSHE, the children thought about what a family is and why their family is special. They then drew and labelled the members of their family.

In ICT, the children learnt how to use a search engine to find information.

Good Evening Everyone,

We’ve had a very busy week and the children have worked so hard. In English, they are really enjoying their learning based on the book ‘Hello Mr Postmouse.’ In Maths they have been doubling and subtracting on a number line and by counting backwards. In RE, they learnt all about Ramadan and in Geography they have been exploring compass directions. I shared the mnemonics ‘Naughty Elephants Squirt Water’ to help the children remember the compass points. I was so impressed that some children were able to come up with their own mnemonics. Also, well done to all the children who presented their learning in the sharing assembly on Monday.

This week was Science week and the children carried out a range of exciting activities. They tracked the weather and measured the rain using rain gauges. They completed a challenge on Wednesday where they worked in pairs to make a tree by using only 4 pieces of paper and a pair of scissors. We were so impressed with the children’s amazing creations. Friday 8 March 2024

Good Evening Everyone,

It has been another very busy week in Year 1. The children all looked amazing in their World Book Day costumes yesterday. In the afternoon, the children had the opportunity to visit Year 3 to share their favourite books with an older child. They read a book together and also wrote about their favourite book character. It was so lovely to see the Year 1’s and 3’s celebrating books together. The children also enjoyed their visit to Christ Church, where they learnt more about ‘Baptism.’ The church’s Vicar used a doll to show the children what happens during a baptism. Then they carried out 3 activities which supported their learning on this topic. The children were so well behaved and they made us really proud. Well done Year 1!
